Learning Objective #3

When it comes to annotating texts presented to us in class each person has their own ways of approaching the task of marking what stands out to them. When I have to annotate a text the first time I read the text I try to read through the whole article first without stopping to see if I can get a feel for what the article is about or the message the author is trying to put forward. After reading through it once I go back and read it more carefully to try to find the important parts of the text or the parts that stood out from the rest. Sometimes the parts of the texts can be small parts of the whole story that people tend to ignore or skip over without realizing it. When highlighting the text instead of using more than one color I try to keep it to one color for if I try to use more than one color I tend to get wrapped up in which colors I should use and what each one should be used for. When I highlight a section of the text I make notes in the margins beside it of my thoughts and feelings of what made that section stand out to me. When I make comments in the margins they’re made up of thoughts I had, questions as well as further comments I had either agreeing with the author or disagreeing with them.  By making highlights and comments while reading a text it makes it easier for one to later go back and use those examples in future essays or journals.
